Display, Title & System Name:
What are these names for?

Display name

This is the information used in the web site's crumb trail and in the left navigation. When adding the Display Name, consider how the name will effect the crumb trail and navigation performance. A very long display name will cause text to wrap (if you're lucky....it MAY push the formatting all out of wak!)

Title

This is the name that appears in the top of the browser window. This is also the name that is recorded when someone bookmarks your page AND the title pays an important role in Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Read more about the page title in SEO.

Rules for page Title:

  • do not use special characters
  • spaces and caps are acceptable
  • avoid pages titles such as "Welcome" and "Home"

System Name

This is the name that Cascade recognizes in the folder structure on your left and it is the final part of the URL that appears in the browser. This name is also used for search engine optomization.

Important things to remember with the "System Name":

  • The system name is applied by choosing the tab "system" when creating or editing a page.
  • Each folder in your site (excluding "images" or "downloads") must have a landing page (a "home page" per se). The folder's "home page" should have a system name "index". It is quite possible that you will have MANY assets in your folder structure named "index" (one per folder).
  • name with all lowercase
  • do not use spaces or special characters (!@!#$%^&*) in the names
  • acceptable special characters are   :   |  and  _
