Teaching:
The Dairy
Center teaches
several classes, including Dairy Science Techniques, Dairy Cattle
Selection, and Dairy Cattle Feeding and Management. Several students in the
Animal Science Techniques course halter-break, fit, and show dairy cattle
for the little North American as part of their curriculum. The farm crew
assists many classes and individual student projects.
Research:
LaMaster Dairy
Center provides animals and support
for research, teaching, and extension activities. Dr. Steve Ellis is
currently working on Ontogeny and Proliferate behavior of Bovine Mammary
Stem Cells; while Dr. Tom Jenkins works on the Digestion and Metabolism of
Fat Supplements in dairy cattle. Dr. John Gibbons is doing embryonic
research. Other environmental studies are ongoing with Dr. Greene and Dr.
Chastain researching lagoon cleaning. There is also research on Fire Ants.
