University Clemson University's Campbell Scholars program is a highly selective program that may award up to $6,000 per year in financial aid for four years of college. Funded by Clemson University and by the Campbell Young Leader's Corporation, the Clemson University Campbell Scholars program promotes community service in the area of youth development. Campbell Scholars serve as leaders and role models for youth. In addition to tutoring elementary and middle school children at their schools, the Scholars also participate in after -school enrichment activities and summer youth camps.
Only a small number of incoming Clemson University freshmen are invited to apply to this scholarship program. Requests for applications are sent to incoming freshmen based on a demonstrated commitment to community service, particularly in the area of youth development; financial need; and academic achievement and promise (SAT scores and high school GPA). If selected, Campbell Scholars are required to attend an orientation program prior to the beginning of their freshman year; perform at least eight hours per week of community service in a designated elementary or middle school each semester; submit reflections on their community service experience, and work for six weeks with compensation at a residential youth-related summer camp during at least one summer during their college career. To be considered for this program, individuals must apply and be accepted to Clemson University, demonstrate financial need as determined by Clemson's Office of Financial Aid, and complete a Campbell Scholars Application.
