Clemson University
Campbell Scholars Program

Clemson University's Campbell Scholars program is a highly selective program that may award up to $6,000 per year in financial aid for four years of college. Funded by Clemson University and by the Campbell Young Leader's Corporation, the Clemson University Campbell Scholars program promotes community service in the area of youth development. Campbell Scholars serve as leaders and role models for youth. In addition to tutoring elementary and middle school children at their schools, the Scholars also participate in after -school enrichment activities and summer youth camps.

Current Campbell Scholars

Only a small number of incoming Clemson University freshmen are invited to apply to this scholarship program. Requests for applications are sent to incoming freshmen based on a demonstrated commitment to community service, particularly in the area of youth development; financial need; and academic achievement and promise (SAT scores and high school GPA).

If selected, Campbell Scholars are required to attend an orientation program prior to the beginning of their freshman year; perform at least eight hours per week of community service in a designated elementary or middle school each semester; submit reflections on their community service experience, and work for six weeks with compensation at a residential youth-related summer camp during at least one summer during their college career.

To be considered for this program, individuals must apply and be accepted to Clemson University, demonstrate financial need as determined by Clemson's Office of Financial Aid, and complete a Campbell Scholars Application.

To be considered, incoming students should complete the application form (see link below) and return it, along with your resume and two recommendations (see link below) from either teachers and/or community service individuals to:

Quotes from past Campbell Scholars:

The first semester of working with the Campbell Scholars has introduced me to people who care about the community as much as I do: not only the sponsors, directors, and coordinators and the other scholars, but the teachers and staff of the schools. I'm amazed at how the whole program is put together to help children, and am proud to be part of it.
[Katherine Quiles]

…I couldn't believe how many times this semester I talked about one of "my kids."  It actually made me feel good to go and read with them, let them read to me, or just play a game with them.  It was hard many mornings to get up… but when I got there and heard them screaming Ms. Amanda and got bombarded with hugs it was all worth it!
[Amanda Lindsay]

I can definitely say that it (being a Campbell Scholar) has positively impacted my overall experience at Clemson.  I have had some great times as a result of this program, and in many ways it has changed me as a person.  I find myself interested in things that I probably never would have shown interest in were it not for this program.  I feel as though I am more aware of the struggles of others, and less concerned with my own troubles.  I also notice that I am more active in trying to have a positive impact on our planet and the people who inhabit it, and I credit my experience in this program for that.
[Chris Gohagan]
