Course Description

Basic rock climbing skills, including philosophy, safety, knots, belay and climbing techniques, site and supplies selection, top rope anchor assessment, and nature/conservation issues are covered.

Course Objectives

  • Learn and participate in a safe climbing environment
  • Learn terminology and uses for climbing equipment
  • Learn to tie the essential knots for climbing
  • Learn and execute proper belay techniques
  • Efficient and effective climbing technique
  • Participate and practice climbing during class time

Instructor Info

Jeremiah Haas is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and holds a B.S. in Recreation, Parks, and Leisure Studies. He has been climbing for the past eleven years and has been guiding for the past four. He is a certified climbing guide through the American Mountain Guides Association, and holds a current Wilderness First Responder certification. He has guided ice and rock climbing adventures from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado, North Carolina, and New Hampshire. Currently, he guides for Climbmax Mountain Guides and Outward Bound.
