Academic excellence through experience
Learning does not just happen in classrooms — it happens when students are applying concepts to real-life problems and situations. Whether observing health care systems in Cyprus, conducting ethnographic research in an Italian marketplace or working alongside volunteers at an NGO in the Bahamas, the immersive experience of learning in a new environment enhances critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills that directly benefit academic performance.

Perugia, Italy
CBSHS in Italy: Travel to Perugia, Italy, for a unique, faculty-led study abroad experience with the College of Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences and the Umbra Institute. Through sociology and anthropology courses taught by both Umbra Institute and Clemson University faculty, as well as immersive visits to local institutions, historical landmarks, markets and restaurants, this interdisciplinary program provides cultural insight and global perspectives applicable to all fields of study.

Balkans, Europe
Summer in the Balkans: Study abroad in Serbia, Montenegro and Croatia and experience a unique opportunity to explore post-conflict European societies with faculty from the Department of Political Science. Gain insight into history, culture and current events during classroom and hands-on learning experiences with students, faculty and government officials. Excursions include the Adriatic coast, historic cities, museums and more. Broaden your perspectives and build meaningful global connections through this challenging and rewarding program.

Belgrade, Serbia
Spring semester in Serbia: Spend a semester in Belgrade studying world politics and international relations in a cosmopolitan European capital city. Complete core requirements in international relations and comparative politics through courses taught by top Belgrade University professors while engaging with local students, government officials and NGOs and gaining a true international perspective. Additional activities include exciting excursions across Serbia and the Balkans.

Germany
Summer in Germany: CBSHS offers two exciting study abroad opportunities in Germany! Travel to Berlin and Stuttgart with the Department of Communication to learn public relations, crisis communication and public communication and enjoy cultural and historical experiences paired with industry case studies from sports automative and health industries.
Travel to multiple locations in Germany with the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management to explore Germany's approach to remembrance culture, emphasizing the intersection of sports, recreation, tourism and history.

Sweden
Summer in Sweden: Study sustainability in one of the world’s most sustainable regions — Kalmar, Sweden. Explore critical topics such as energy, water, food, policy, ecology and economics, gaining a holistic understanding of sustainability from a global perspective. Open to students of all majors, this interdisciplinary program at Linnaeus University combines engaging coursework with insights from internationally renowned speakers, hands-on learning and unique cultural experiences to build the knowledge and skills necessary to address sustainability challenges worldwide.

Tanzania, Africa
Maymester in Tanzania: Join a two-week Maymester service-learning trip to Africa focused on helping locals in a culturally sensitive and empowering way through education and recreation. Work directly with an orphanage and a number of school programs on a cultural exchange with students at the University of Dar es Salaam. Connect with local farmers and conclude the experience with a safari in Serengeti National Park to see the famed wildebeest migration and more.

Nicosia, Cyprus
Spring semester in Cyprus: Spend a semester abroad in the vibrant city of Nicosia, Cyprus, through the CBSHS Nursing in Cyprus program, in partnership with the University of Nicosia (UNIC). Gain a unique, international perspective on health care and participate in excursions to Ayia Napa, Larnaca, Limassol, Paphos, Kyrenia and Troodos with opportunities to explore Europe more broadly. Student accommodations include private, single occupancy housing with ensuite kitchens, bathrooms and private balconies to ensure the number one student experience.

Brussels, Belgium
Communication in Brussels: Study communication in Brussels, the heart of Europe, during this four-week summer program to deepen cultural competency and communication skills - and explore persuasion, media law, ethics and the European cultural and political influences of the past, present and future. Program highlights include visits to the European Union and Parliament, plus a walk in Thomas Green Clemson’s footsteps to explore the political capital of Europe as he did during his own studies abroad.

Szeged, Hungary
Human skeletal analysis in Hungary: Study human skeletal remains in Hungary through a hands-on program at the University of Szeged, home to a collection of over 30,000 skeletons dating from the Neolithic to the 1800s. Enjoy cultural excursions to the beautiful European capital of Budapest and the Heritage Park in Opusztaszer, featuring archaeological excavations of a medieval monastery, a living open-air museum with a replica of a village and displays of traditional Hungarian horsemanship.

Dublin, Ireland
Summer in Ireland: Explore the intersection of communication and media and the application of communication principles across cultural contexts with faculty in the Department of Communication. The courses offered (COMM 3800 and 3070) focus specifically on cross-cultural communication and mediated representations of science and technology and fulfill emphasis area and minor requirements.

Madrid, Spain
PRTM and Real Madrid C.F.: Gain insight into the global sports industry with one of the most iconic sport brands in the world, Real Madrid C.F. In partnership with Escuela Universitaria Real Madrid Universidad Europea, the program covers topics such as technical management in sport entities, commercialization and marketing for sport, sporting venue management and sales management. With semester-long and summer options, there is an option for everyone.

Eleuthera, Bahamas
PRTM in the Bahamas: Earn Global Challenges credit, learn park management principles, explore climate change impacts and experience Eleuthera's stunning landscapes by combining academic learning with real-world insights. In partnership with the One Eleuthera Foundation and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management (PRTM), this program explores sustainable development and environmental stewardship through five key focus areas: economy, education, environment, health and wellness, and heritage and culture.

Puerto Rico
Global Start in Puerto Rico: Are you a first-year Clemson student? Global Start is Clemson’s experiential learning portfolio designed exclusively for first year students. You will start your classes on campus and then continue your learning abroad, earning credit for a Global Challenges course while traveling to Puerto Rico with a Clemson faculty member and staff mentor. The on-campus portion lasts about one week, and the international portion lasts 8-10 days. The course begins during Summer II in July.

France and Spain
Summer in France and Spain: Explore public health from an international perspective and gain insight into public health challenges in France and Spain through this transformative study abroad experience led by faculty members in the Department of Public Health Sciences. You will have unique opportunities to apply classroom theory to real-world situations and develop skills for a successful career in public health or related fields.

Italy
Paralympics in Italy: Earn academic credit while exploring sport and culture, engaging with event designers and organizers to understand the Paralympic Games’ execution and the global importance of disability awareness. This immersive experience offers insight into the complex planning and logistics behind large-scale international sporting events. Beyond spectating, you will have the opportunity to volunteer by assisting with athlete check-in at the Olympic and Paralympic Village.
