New for 2016 - Driving Directions, Bus Unloading Procedures, Parking Information

Parking will prove to be the most challenging part of using our temporary location, Tillman Hall. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of available, visitor, parking on a business day in the middle of our busy campus.   Please carefully review all drop-off procedures and bus/car parking information, have a parking plan in advance, and know that it is going to take some extra time on Friday morning. Thank you in advance for your patience! :)

Bus Unloading/Loading Procedures

As buses approach Tillman on Calhoun Drive, please do not pull into Gantt Circle in front of Tillman Hall to unload – there is not enough room to navigate the circle and exit. Instead…

  • All buses will load/unload on Calhoun Drive (the street right in front of Tillman) in the right hand lane. Look for the bus attendants that will be on hand to direct and assist. As you approach Tillman, pass the circle, and pull up to the 3rd crosswalk, just behind the last parked car on the right. Quickly unload your students and send your bus to the parking areas. There is a 2-minute loading/unloading time limit. 3-4 buses can unload at a time if done quickly.

  • DO NOT stop your bus, or block traffic in the left hand, barricaded side of Calhoun Dr.

  • If there isn’t room to pull over and stop in the right hand lane (too many buses ahead of you, or traffic stacked up behind you), you must be prepared to loop around and try again.

      • To make a loop: pass by the barricade in the right hand lane and turn right onto Fort Hill St. At the bottom of the hill at the stop sign, turn right onto Williamson (in front of football stadium). At the light, turn right onto 93. Follow 93 past the tennis courts, soccer field, and Bowman field, until you see Tillman Hall on your right. At the light, turn right onto Parkway Dr., then right at 4 way stop onto Calhoun Drive. Tillman will now be in front of you…try to unload again if there is room.

Be sure to exchange cell phone numbers with your driver so that you can coordinate pick up!

After the exam, use the same bus loading procedures as in the morning. Call for your bus only when your entire group is ready to load, as buses cannot remain in the right lane of Calhoun Drive more than 2 minutes. If there is not room to pull over in the right lane (too many buses in front of you or traffic backing up behind you), your bus driver will need to to make a loop around and try again.

If you are eating in Schilletter Dining Hall after the exam, a more convenient pick up location may be in front of the Hendrix Center. To see a map, search for Hendrix Student Center, McMillan Road, Clemson, SC on Google Maps.

Bus Parking - 3 options

After unloading, buses have 3 parking options:

  1. Park on Perimeter Road in the bus pull off area (expanded shoulder), above the football practice fields and across the street from the R3 lot.

  2. Park in the P3 lot using ONLY the white parking spaces in the 3 rows closest to Perimeter Rd (marked rows 10, 11 or 12). This option is reserved for teachers/chaperones driving buses that need to quickly rejoin their group in Tillman.

  3. Park on East Beach Drive, running parallel to the old rugby fields (future soccer fields under construction now), or in the gravel lot at the Rowing facility at the end of this road.

To park on East Beach Drive or in the gravel lot, follow East Beach Drive past McFadden, the baseball facility, the rugby/new soccer fields, the golf facility, up the hill to the gravel lot at the Rowing facility. There IS a place to loop around at the top of the hill at the Rowing boathouse!

Bus drivers may catch the free CAT bus (orange route) at the corner of Centennial and Ave of Champions (or Centennial/ Ravenel) to ride back to Tillman (get off at the Hardin Hall stop). CAT buses are scheduled to arrive every 7 minutes. See CAT bus schedule at www.catbus.com/home/tiger.html or in real time by downloading the free my.Clemson app to your smart phone or tablet from Google Play or the App Store.

Car or Van Parking – 2 options

Option 1 – Metered parking ($1/hour)
Cars or vans may be parked in a marked metered space. Metered spaces fill quickly in the mornings. The meters closest to Tillman Hall are:

  • next to or behind Sikes Hall,
  • in front of the Clemson House or at the Visitor’s Center (across Hwy 93 from Tillman),
  • on Fort Hill St (across from Holmes or McCabe),
  • in Bryan Circle (in front of Mauldin or Lever - high rise dorm),
  • or next to the library (Cooper).

See a complete list of ALL meter locations at www.clemson.edu/campus-life/parking/meter.html

Metered parking is $1.00/hour. Payment options include quarter, $1.00 bills, and credit and debit cards. Each metered lots has signage that identifies the metered spaces as well as the location of the meter. Look for the white “P” on the side of a pay station and the black, bronze and white “Pay Meter Here” signs. These signs display directions on how to pay the multi-space pay station. Be aware of the time limits and make plans to return and feed the meter if necessary to avoid ticketing.

Metered spaces can be located by downloading the Parker app to find space availability in real-time or by checking the meter map, www.clemson.edu/campus-life/parking/meter.html. Parker is an app that will provide turn by turn directions to open visitor parking spaces on campus. The app will also tell you how many spaces are available at that moment in time. Parker is available for iPhones in the App Store and for Android phones in the Google Play Store.

Option 2 – Park in P3 or P4 - any valid permit lots
Cars/vans may also park in the P3 or P4 lots (behind football stadium in P3, or next to the baseball stadium, outfield side, in P4). Park in a white space (marked rows 10-12) in P3 or in P4 and then catch the free CAT bus (orange route) at the corner of Centennial and Ave of Champions to ride back to Tillman (get off at the Hardin Hall stop). CAT buses are scheduled to arrive every 7 minutes.
