Animal Behavior Database

The Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences at Clemson University is dedicated to the well-being and efficient utilization of domestic animals.  One of the ways that assist in accomplishing this is through the understanding of animal behavior.

This science seeks out and answers the question as to why an animal behaves the way it does; therefore providing a deeper understanding of the animal and enabling a more effective management of our domestic species.  If the motivations and triggers behind animals’ behavior can be understood, stress can be minimized for both the animal and the manager.  This helps to ensure the well-being and harmony of the animals that serve us so well.

This website provides a catalog of animal behavior for several common domestic species. It contains original footage from the University farms—most of which were contributed by students within the Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences. This website’s goal is to give you an understanding of domestic animal behavior by providing an intimate look at some of the domestic animals that we interact with on a daily basis. In doing so, it will contribute to Clemson University’s dedication to the advancement of agriculture.
