The Emeritus Council for AVS consists of all emeritus faculty members who care to participate in an advisory capacity when asked. The more formal way in which this council functions is a lunch meeting several times a year, hosted by the department, and including a short presentation by a current faculty member, an overview of departmental goals and aspirations, and a brainstorming session. The first such luncheon was held in April 2008, with an attendance of approximately 20 former faculty members and several spouses. The presentation was an overview of Dr. Susan Duckett’s muscle physiology research program involving forage finished beef. Keith Barber of the PSA/CAFLS Development Office gave a brief presentation and many good ideas were discussed about ways in which to reconnect with older alums.
