Genetics and Biochemistry double major awarded a Barry M. Goldwater scholarship

Brittany Avin, a genetics and biochemistry double major and a National Scholar, has been awarded a prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship for the 2014-15 academic year. The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program was established in 1986 “to foster and encourage excellence in science and mathematics”. In addition to performing her Departmental Honors research in Dr. Kerry Smith’s lab in the Department, Brittany worked in the laboratory of of Dr. Anita Corbett in the Emory University Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program and her presentation was selected as the SURE Program’s Most Popular Poster for the final poster session. This summer, she will be performing research at the National Cancer Institute’s Integrative Cancer Biology Summer Cancer Research Fellowship Program at Vanderbilt University.
