Masters of Arts in Teaching — Middle Levels Education
Overview
The MAT (masters of arts in teaching) in middle grades to level education is a 36-hour field-based initial certification program for grades 5-8. Course work includes 12 content area hours and 24 hours in education in the areas of middle school methods, curriculum, reading, educational psychology, growth and development, tests and measures, and special education.
Admission Requirements
For admission, individuals must have:

Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution

Admission to the Clemson Graduate School
To be considered for admission to the Graduate School candidates must submit:

Online application ($70.00 application fee for US/Permanent Resident Applications; $80.00 application fee for International Applications)
- Select program code 304 (Middle Grades Education) on the online application form

Official transcripts

Transcripts are required from prior institutions from which a degree was awarded and from which transfer credit is desired

Two recommendations (one from immediate/prior supervisor)

Recommendation forms may be sent to recommenders electronically from online application or you may download a PDF recommendation form to send to your recommenders to complete and return to the Graduate School

Passing score on Praxis II content area exam

Applicants for whom English is a second language must also submit acceptable TOEFL scores
