Field Experience

Student with teacher

The Eugene T. Moore School of Education believes that high quality field and internship experiences are essential to program success.  Field experiences and internships provide our candidates with diverse, real world experiences in their major fields of study.  We believe our graduates depart Clemson with the knowledge and experience to be highly effective practitioners and leaders in the education profession.

Bill Millar (Coordinator of Office of Field Experiences) coordinates field placements and internships for initial certification teacher candidates. Elaine Hiott coordinates placements for clinical mental health counseling, school counseling, and student affairs counseling students. The pages within this portion of our web site provide detailed information on teacher education and counselor education field and internship experiences.

Field experiences in educational leadership take place at the masters, specialist and doctoral level.  Field experience for MEd students are coordinated by the instructor through EDL 750, 751, 755, and 756. Doctoral students in the P-12 and Higher Education concentrations must complete field experiences in educational leadership that include 6 semester credits (EDL 985 and EDL 986). In EDL 985, students are required to work with senior-level administrators in a chosen area of specialization in educational leadership, either in public schools or institutions of higher education. In EDL 986, students are required to work with professors to develop research skills in a chosen area of specialization resulting in the completion of a conference proposal submission or a manuscript submission for publication.
