Welcome to the PRTM homepage!

PRTM's mission is to improve quality of life and health through the study of human behaviors and settings as they relate to the provision and management of leisure experiences, services, and therapeutic interventions in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. We provide high-impact, faculty-led educational experiences, cutting edge foundational and applied research, and outreach activities that prepare our students to serve the citizens of SC, our national and global constituents, and to create innovative solutions in a rapidly changing environment.

Please spend some time wandering through our site and I believe you will be impressed with all the things we are doing. Our faculty, staff and students are engaged in a variety of endeavors that make it nearly impossible to list them all – from our innovative EDGE (Engaging in Diverse Guided Experiences) semester and five concentration areas in our undergraduate degree program to our internationally recognized graduate program – from our students interning in agencies throughout the country to projects in Africa, Europe and the Caribbean – from our Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Clemson University to the Outdoor Lab – from our work with child development to research in Glacier National Park, from our on-line master’s degree program to our highly respected Ph.D. degree – there is a lot going on.

Please explore all we have to offer. If you cannot find something or someone, or if you have a question that we can help answer, please take the time to contact us. Hospitality is more than a buzzword at Clemson; it is something we practice. And, since this website is an extension of what we would offer you in person, please know that your visit is always welcome!

Clemson University's Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management Program is accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Parks, Recreation, Tourism, and Related Professions (COAPRT). COAPRT accredits baccalaureate programs in parks, recreation, tourism, sport management, event management, therapeutic recreation, and leisure studies offered at regionally accredited institutions within the United States and its territories, and at nationally accredited institutions in Canada and Mexico. COAPRT is, in turn, accredited by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

Be Aware of Degree and Accreditation Mills

CHEA requires accredited institutions to inform the public about “degree and accreditation mills.”  Cautions concerning these are summarized in a video that can be viewed at http://chea.org/public_info/video_degree_mills.asp.  According to CHEA,

Degree mills and accreditation mills mislead and harm.  In the United States, degrees and certificates from mills may not be acknowledged by other institutions when students seek to transfer or go to graduate school.  Employers may not acknowledge degrees and certificates from degree mills when providing tuition assistance for continuing education.  “Accreditation” from an accreditation mill can mislead students and the public about the quality of an institution.  In the presence of degree mills and accreditation mills, students may spend a good deal of money and receive neither an education nor a useable credential.
