    This class teaches advanced mechanics and strategies of ultimate Frisbee, a nonstop 7 on 7 sport. This course involves a fair amount of running and presumes a basic understanding of the game.

    Students will learn how to think strategically on offense and on defense, and gain a competitive edge over their components at any competition level (pickup, intramural, or intercollegiate)

    Cleats are required to participate in this class. All students are required to bring a white and a dark shirt to class (no gray, please!). If you are very set in your ways and have no interest in becoming a better ultimate player, you probably will not enjoy the class very much.

  • Belly Dance II

    The instructor’s description of this course is…
    Belly Dance II is a continuation of the concepts learned in Belly Dance I. In this class, students learn more detailed belly dance movement and are introduced to the layering of movements. Students are introduced to classical musical compositions, composers, dancers, and singers of significance to Belly Dancing. Students will learn how to connect to and interpret Middle East music in their dance.

    In addition to learning intermediate movement skills in Belly Dancing, students will learn correct posture, carriage, and coordination that can be utilized in daily life. Some students notice a positive impact on their self-esteem and body image.

    Students learn how to execute 2 Belly Dance movements simultaneously; Students learn dance combinations to practice their new skills; Students learn about the Middle Eastern musical instruments and how to interpret them in dance.

  • Disc Golf

    The instructor’s description of this course is…
    Golf with discs. The sport involves throwing discs (smaller and designed differently than ultimate frisbee discs) from a teebox to a hole basket in as few throws as possible.

    The basics of disc golf and the joy of it.

    Getting to spend time outdoors in the beauty of Clemson at the Y beach, enjoying the company of your classmates and learning a great sport that is easy to play.

  • Environmental sculpture

    This course will introduce students to 3-dimensional design with emphasis on form and structure in a natural setting. Students will be asked to create and build sculptures made of various natural materials found in the woods. Our classroom is Clemson forest.

    The most important thing students will learn in this class is…
    Through the creation of sculptures, students will explore and apply the principles and elements of design as they pertain to environmental sculpture. Students will also gain an appreciation for the natural world.

    Middle Eastern Dance is a “tour” of certain regions, dances, and cultures of the Middle East & North Africa. Students explore dance and music both in lecture and in practical study.

    The most important thing students will learn in this class is…
    Students will learn about the people and rich cultural heritage of the Middle East and North Africa and will gain insight into these cultures from a social (not political) standpoint. Students will gain a deeper understanding of these populations as global neighbors.

    If you are new to running, I would suggest the “Run Jog” course. The Marathon Training class is geared towards students with a background in running whether it’s high school cross country, 5K or 10K races (or longer) and a genuine desire to complete a marathon.     It is truly non-traditional training methods. Body weight exercises, Olympic lifting, medicine balls, sprinting, pulling sleds, flipping/pushing/pulling tractor tires, sledgehammers, plyometrics, and other techniques. Anything but traditional gym exercises and machines.

    A sense of exercise being fun. Also, that you do not have to have a gym membership to train. You can train anywhere.

    This course will help the student develop a mechanically sound golf swing while teaching the fundamentals needed to feel comfortable playing the game of golf. Students will learn the history of the game and gain an appreciation for golf's contribution to personal exercise and leisure.

    Students will have fun learning and playing the game of golf, a sport they can enjoy playing with friends and family for the rest of their lives.

    1.) Golf is fun and weather permitting, we get to be outside. 2.) Golf is one of the most rewarding games out there, and no matter what skill level a student is, she will feel such accomplishment with the progress made during this course. 3.)
