News from HEHD Academic Advising Center

The Clemson University College of Health, Education, and Human Development Academic Advising CenterThinking About Changing Your Major?
If you are considering a major other than your present major, this is the time to visit the other major department.  February is the time to visit the advising center which has the advising responsibility for the major you are considering. March and April are reserved for advising students who are in their declared majors.  That means advisors in other majors, such as business, won't be able to see you.  They will be involved with their own students.  Go now.  If you don't know where to go, check with your current advisor.  We'll direct you to the right person and place. Check your email for updates about change of major events.

Before You Withdraw from A Class
Before you drop a class or withdraw from a class, check with the Financial Aid office to see if this will affect your financial aid.  Also check with your parents to see if it will affect your health or automobile insurance.

Academic Success Center
Are you a student who doesn’t test well? Well, it might simply be a case of excessive test anxiety. Most students experience some anxiety during an exam. But excessive test anxiety can cause mental blocking, difficulty in organizing your thoughts, forgetting course material, even headache and upset stomach. Learn how to assess your own level of nervousness while taking tests, as well as relaxation techniques and how to control negative or worrisome thoughts during exams.  Sign up at this website:  http://www.clemson.edu/asc/workshops/index.html, and attend the workshop “Test Anxiety” on February 5 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in 309 Cooper Library.  Be sure to check this web site: www.clemson.edu/asc. There’s a link to “Tutoring Tonight,” a list of where to get tutoring in any given subject on any given night.  For more information, call 656-6452.  The Academic Success Center is located on Level 3 of the Cooper Library.  If you don’t go to the ASC in person, do check out the web site.  You’ll be amazed by all the tips and links to helpful resources.
