Profile

Aleda Roth is an internationally recognized empirical scholar and thought leader in manufacturing and service operations strategy. Her research is motivated by theoretical and practical explanations of how firms can best deploy their operations, global supply chains, and technology strategies for competitive advantage, sustainability and public well-being. Her multidisciplinary work spans multiple industries, global regions, and methods. Most recently, she is addressing performance, competitiveness, and policy impacts of emerging paradigms, including service innovation and design strategies for customer experience; new business models for responsible and sustainable operations; strategic sourcing strategies and quality risks in food, pharmaceuticals and other consumer products; resilient supply chain and innovative strategies for public well-being, including health care and humanitarian relief services; knowledge sharing in supplier selection for new products; and e-operations competencies for ERP, B2B and B2C commerce. At Clemson, Aleda initiated the Global Food Supply Chain Quality Risk Project; and working with Deloitte Consulting, the Global Country Manufacturing Competitiveness Index Project. Aleda received over 80 research and teaching awards since her doctorate in 1986. With over 200 publications (99 in refereed journals), her work ranks in the top 1% of POM scholars in the U.S.; in the top 2%, published in the Journal of Operations Management; and 7th worldwide in service management research. In 2009, she was listed as a Stellar Scholar in production and operations management. Most recently, she will be honored at INFORMs with the 2014 Award for the Advancement of Women in Operation Research and Management Sciences; and in 2013, as a Texas A&M Institute for Advanced Study (TIAS) Eminent Scholar. Aleda is a Fellow of the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS), Distinguished Fellow of Manufacturing and Service (M&SOM) Operations Society, and Fellow of the Decision Sciences Institute (DSI). She holds two Lifetime Achievement Awards; and was named an Advanced Institute of Management (AIM) Research International Fellow-UK and a Center for Services Leadership Distinguished Faculty. Aleda held senior leadership position in top journals, including Production and Operations Management (POM), Management Science, Manufacturing and Service Operations (M&SOM), Journal of Operations Management (JOM), Services Science, and Journal of Supply Chain Management (JSCM). Aleda is the Past President of POMS. Aleda is a member of the Supply Chain Thought Leaders Roundtable; and also serves as a subject matter expert on the Executive Advisory Committee of the U.S. Manufacturing Competitiveness Initiative, Council of Competitiveness, and since 1991, as an industry-sponsored member of the Conference Board's Business Performance Excellence Council. She has consulted with corporate staff at Nestle Corporate, Glaxo-Welcome R&D Services, GE Corporate Office of Technology, Baxter Healthcare, Nortel, Equifax, IBM, Bank Administration Institute, Skandia, Allied Signal, Smith & Nephew UK, Texas Instruments, Hoechst-Celanese, J&J, Deloitte, Accenture, E&Y, Price Waterhouse Coopers, National Center for Manufacturing Sciences, and others. She served on Congressionally-appointed committees for the US Department of Health and Human Services
