Michelin Annual Scholarship for International Programs 2017-2018

The College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences invites applications for the Michelin Annual Scholarships for Global Engagement. These scholarships will help support outstanding students in engineering and science disciplines who undertake a rigorous program of study for developing second language fluency. Students involved in the program may also be eligible to participate in co-op and/or internships in Michelin facilities worldwide including North America and France.

Applicants must be enrolled in degree programs of the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences. A student must have completed at least two full-time semesters at Clemson at the time of application and be at least two semesters from graduation with a bachelor’s degree. Prospective Michelin Scholars must have second language proficiency or be taking courses towards developing such proficiency.

Prospective Michelin Scholars are expected to have demonstrated an interest in global learning that can be evident from previous broader engagement experience for example (including but not limited to) learning a foreign language, learning about other cultures, having study abroad experiences. The applicant needs to provide evidence of the broader engagement experience including a letter of recommendation from the language instructor or faculty advisor of a club or a faculty lead for study abroad program verifying and addressing the applicant’s experience.

Applicants must have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point ratio, and must be U.S. citizens or have a permanent right to work in the U.S. For 2017-2018, up to three scholarships of $2000 each will be awarded. Preference will be given to outstanding students who have not previously held the Michelin International Scholarship. Recipients will be selected by the faculty who comprise the Committee on Global Engagement of the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences upon the recommendation of the Honors and Awards Committee of the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences.

A complete application package must have two letters of recommendation and an unofficial copy of the most recent transcript. One of the references should be from a faculty member familiar with the applicant’s global engagement experience and the other from a faculty member familiar with the applicant’s engineering and science program of study. Reference letters and transcripts should be emailed directly to Mr. Matt Long (mclong@clemson.edu) with the applicant's name on the subject line.

The deadline for application is April 21, 2017.
