Chris Talley - Anderson County Extension Livestock Agent & South Carolina Market Steer Program Coordinator Dr. Larry W. Olson - Extension Animal Scientist
The South Carolina Market Steer Program conducted by Clemson University's Cooperative Extension Service is open to all active South Carolina 4-H and FFA members. Steers must be South Carolina born, raised and fed. They must be nominated by May 15, 2008. When steers are checked in the first week of June, they will be identified with EID tags and weighed on test. Participants must keep weight, costs and management records. The contest will end with the Market Steer Show at the 2008 South Carolina State Fair in mid-October. Steers will be weighed off-test. This is a terminal project and show. Following the State Fair, all steers will be sold and slaughtered to collect carcass data. Awards will be presented based on overall performance on the hoof and on the rail. Program Information [pdf]
