State Certification Information

Expired Certificate/Renewing a Certificate

The South Carolina State Department of Education authorizes the requirements to renew an expired teaching certificate. Please refer to the following site for details: http://ed.sc.gov/agency/act/se/ec/cert/recert/rc_expired.cfm. If you have any questions, please contact the South Carolina State Department of Education.

Reciprocal Applicants

Teachers with a valid certificate issued by another state might be eligible for certification through South Carolina’s reciprocity agreement. Please contact the South Carolina State Department of Education for details and contact information: http://ed.sc.gov/agency/se/Educator-Services/Licensure/ReciprocalApplicants.cfm

Foreign Applicants Applying for Certification

The South Carolina State Department of Education will determine the eligibility of foreign teachers applying for teacher certification. If you have any questions, please contact the South Carolina State Department of Education.

Add-On Certification

Teachers can add additional area of certification to their existing certificate by completing the requirements specified by the South Carolina State Department of Education. The South Carolina State Department of Education must authorize adding an area to a certificate.

Alternative Certification

Completion of Recommendation/Verification Forms from Other States

Clemson alumni who need to have verification or recommendation forms completed for licensure in other states should contact Bill Millar at 864-656-5095 in the Office of Field Experiences, 100 Tillman Hall.
