National Animal Identification Process Validation

The National Animal Identification System (NAIS) is a USDA mandated program that, once implemented, will permanently identify all large food animals (specifically beef and dairy animals) with a unique RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tag by 2010. In the AVS department, multiple new and emerging technologies will be deployed to allow Clemson University to offer demonstration, research and teaching related to implementation and management of the NAIS program. Undergraduate students involved in this inquiry will interface with various classes as well as through the AVS department’s collaborative research opportunities.
