Ruminant Anatomy

This creative inquiry (CI) project is directly focused to educate the undergraduate pre-vet student with an emphasis of increased large animal knowledge and hands-on experience before they begin vet school or employment in the field of agriculture and animal production.  The students selected for this project will collect digital images and supporting material that will be compiled into an instructional text/DVD entitled “A Photographic Atlas of Ruminants.”

Project overview: CI students will partake in ruminant necropsy (post-mortem examination of muscles, organs, vessels, bones), radiographs and histology preparation.  The curriculum produced during this CI project is meant to provide visual learning tools of bovine, caprine and ovine to aid AVS students in their animal science courses.

Students are required to present a final CI seminar summarizing their project to the AVS Department including faculty, staff and 380 undergraduates.  In addition, the Ruminant Anatomy CI summary will be presented during the Clemson University Creative Inquiry poster forum.  Opportunities to present at other university or regional scientific meetings may exist.
