Sensory Lab

Description of Services:

  • Completion and Submission of Institutional Review Board Application (IRB)
  • Sensory Evaluation Design and Protocol
  • Panel recruitment and/or Training
  • Administration of Product Evaluation Panels (Affective and Discriminative)
  • Statistical Analysis of Data

Sensory evaluation projects typically include design of study, evaluation protocol, recruiting and training panelist, preparation of products to be evaluated, execution of test, statistical analysis and record keeping.

  2. Off-Campus Clients are users without a Clemson University account number.

All materials/supplies and panelist’s incentives (treats, etc.) are in addition to the posted fees.  Administrative fee of 5% will be added to total invoice.     

NOTE

  • There will be a cleaning charge of $25.00 in addition to the daily facility rate for any area that has to be cleaned after used by on- or off-campus clients.
  • All perishable samples should be shipped to arrive during regular business hours (8am- 4:30pm) and directions for storage upon arrival at Clemson University should be clearly communicated.

Explanation of Sensory Services

All sensory services offered are based on a per hour basis.  These services are difficult to price out because each test is unique and the customer’s requirements are different.  Therefore, the initial consultation is always “no charge”.  This enables the program coordinator to evaluate the needs of the customer and to provide a close estimate of the cost of the services.  Depending on the project, some of the services will not be necessary. At the same time, if the project requires a large panelist pool, has multiple samples, or is a long shelf-life study, the rate will reflect the increase in time that the project will take.  All materials/supplies and panelist’s incentives (treats, etc.) are in addition to the posted fees.

As of January 2009, the sensory program will be operating with a computerized sensory program, SIMS 2000.  With this transition, there will be a charge for the technician’s time to operate the software, whether the project is executed by the on-campus client or performed by an off-campus client.  If the client selects to use paper ballots, there will not be a charge for the technician’s time.
