Grace Cook (’12) and Mackenzie Lussier (’13), Clemson University students in packaging science, are co-recipients of the 2012 Future Leaders in Packaging Scholarship, sponsored by Packaging World magazine and packaging converter Printpack, Inc. The $2500 educational scholarship, which will be split between the two winners, recognizes a promising undergraduate packaging science student from Clemson.

Grace Cook, a native of Easley, SC, has been a member of Dr. Kay Cooksey’s CI team in sustainable PLA (polylactic acid) packaging and is currently involved in Mr. Bob Moore’s CI team, Industry Interactions. “My career goal is to become an integral part of the packaging industry who helps increase and improve the sustainability of packaging,” she says. “This scholarship is instrumental to the completion of my undergraduate degree and will allow me to pursue my graduate studies more quickly”. Grace has held a co-op at Proctor & Gamble, where she will again return this summer.

She hopes this experience will allow her to transition into a career where she can work with hospitals and medical device packaging companies. Receiving this scholarship awards speaks to the strength of the Clemson packaging science program, she says. “It is exciting to know that both the department and the University [Clemson] are receiving recognition for their hard work and dedication to the program and their students”.
