Dr. Felix Barron to Present on Probiotics

Dr. Felix Barron, Professor in the Department of Food, Nutrition, and Packaging Sciences at Clemson University, and Florencia Baron, Nurse Practitioner at North Hills Medical Center, will be giving a presentation titled, "Understanding Probiotics and Hispanic Culture Competent," in Greenville, SC on Tuesday, NovemberDr. Felix Barron 13th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The program is approved for 2.0 contact hours of continuing education by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. 

At the end of the presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Explain basic probiotics related terminology
  • Understand the evidence for the usefulness of probiotics and their mechanisms of action
  • Understand probiotic food labels and the health benefit claims of probiotic foods
  • Provide health care practitioners with basic scientific guidelines to make recommendations of probiotics for patients
  • Explain culturual health beliefs and practices of Hispanic patients
  • Barriers of Hispanic patients to access health care
