Forestry Summer Camp

Forestry Summer CampUndergraduate students majoring in Forest Resource Management take a series of courses during the first summer term following their sophomore year. Together, these courses (Forest Communities, Forest Operations, Forest Mensuration, and Forest Products) are called Summer Camp and are a strong component of the curriculum, which is accredited by the Society of American Foresters. It is a rigorous eight-week session, designed to give our students a thorough background and understanding of forestry procedures such as the use of the compass, GPS, GIS, tree measurement, timber cruising, and forest inventory. In addition, forestry students receive an introduction to forest plant communities, the forest industry, and forest operations and harvesting, to prepare them to become professional foresters or to go on to graduate study.
