History of the "Infamous Buist Tract" and its Wildfires
The Buist Tract lies between Conway and Myrtle Beach and until recently it was the largest undeveloped tract of land on South Carolina’s coast.It was the South Carolina Forestry Commission that used the phrase, “infamous Buist Tract,” to describe the area where the single worst wildfire in state history occurred in 1976.

The Solid Waste Authority 1187 Management Plan
Horry County Solid Waste Authority (HCSWA) has received many outstanding awards and have proven to be a leader in solid waste management. With the purchase of the Solid Waste Authority land-use property (SWA 1187), they are going a step further by conserving some of the nation’s most rare and endangered ecosystems.
