Perennial Plant Association-- 2012 Perennial Plant Symposium Scholarships (Deadline: 3/2/12)

Summary:
The Perennial Plant Association (PPA) is offering five (5) scholarships to college students studying horticulture or a related subject area coupled with attendance at the 2012 Perennial Plant Symposium in Boston, MA, July 4-10.  Students enrolled in two- or four-year programs are eligible to apply.  Each scholarship recipient will be notified late April.

Each $1,000 scholarship will cover the following:
  • Each recipient will attend the 2012 Perennial Plant Symposium in Boston, Massachusetts, July 4-10.
  • Each recipient will receive complimentary registration for the Symposium and tours.
  • Each recipient will receive complimentary lodging during the symposium.
Qualifications:
1) Must be majoring or minoring in horticulture or a related field;

2) Must have at least one quarter or semester remaining following spring term 2012;

3) Must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale;

4) Recipients must attend the 2012 Perennial Plant Symposium in Boston, MA, to receive the $1000 scholarship;

5) Recipient must attend a minimum of the three-day symposium, July 6-8, and a day of tour or workshops;

6) A brief summary of the experience is requested so that the student’s perspective may be published in the PPA newsletter;

7) Applicant must have an interest in a career in the perennial industry.

Application packet must consist of the following:
 
 1) Completed Application Form (to download an application form [pdf], click here);

2) Statement of Purpose (On a separate sheet of paper, state why you wish to pursue a career in the perennial industry);

3) Describe your career goals and how a scholarship will help you meet them.  Include your interest and work with herbaceous perennials;

4) College Transcripts;

5) Three (3) letters of recommendation, including one from an academic advisor explaining your interest in horticulture and perennials, and one from a member of the Perennial Plant Association, should be included with the application form
