The top priorities of the Jordan Hall Imaging Facility are education and research support. With all new users, an initial consultation is held, during which the facility manager meets with the client to discuss the details of the project. Dr. Bruce has an extensive background in engineering materials and biology. By drawing on this experience, she is able to assist in tailoring a project from sample preparation to image acquisition and analysis, in order to meet the specific needs of the client.

For graduate students with limited access to research funds, the JHIF offers a mini-grant program. Students may submit proposals for up to 10 hours of beam time on the instruments. The proposals are reviewed by a grants committee comprised of the facility manager, the department head of Biological Sciences, and members of the JHIF Advisory Committee. All grant recipients are mentored and supervised by the facility manager so that they may utilize their microscope time efficiently.
