Application Procedures and Answers to FAQs

DEADLINE: There are no deadlines for applications; however, it is a good idea to start the process as far ahead of the entry semester as possible

ADVISOR: Before applying, prospective students are expected to identify a faculty advisor whose research program is of interest.

APPLY: When you have identified an advisor who has agreed to accept the applicant, the online system is used for completing the application (
NOTE: If you apply without having identified an advisor, your application will remain on file for one year.

The following is required in the online application:

  • Application with biographical information, including name of potential advisor
  • Two recommendations from people knowledgeable about your potential, work habits, integrity, etc., submitted directly to the Graduate School
    NOTE: If you list the names on the online application, the Graduate School will automatically send recommendation forms to them for completion
  • Official GRE and, if applicable, TOEFL scores, submitted to the Graduate School
    NOTE: Minimum scores are not posted by law
  • Official transcripts submitted to the Graduate School
