Meet Our Executive Vice President for Finance and Operations and COO
Anthony “Tony” Wagner is the Executive Vice President for Finance and Operations and Chief Operations Officer at Clemson University, where he brings extensive experience in university administration and financial management. Tony holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Penn State University and a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy from Temple University.
Working closely with the University’s Executive Leadership Team, Tony actively contributes to the development of long-range financial plans and strategies that align with the University’s vision and goals. With his variety of experience in higher education spanning two decades, he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this critical role.
Before joining Clemson, Tony served as the Executive Vice President for Finance at Augusta University and the affiliated Augusta University Health System. Prior to that, he held the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Temple University. He also contributed to the success of Penn State University, where he served in various leadership roles in government relations and finance. Tony’s dedication to public service is evident through his previous roles in the government of Pennsylvania, including serving as Deputy Secretary of the Budget and Deputy State Treasurer. His expertise in financial management and budgeting has been invaluable to both the public and higher education sectors.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Tony is a proud veteran, having served as a deep-sea diver in the US Navy for four years. He and his wife, Lisa, have two grown sons.
