1963 saw an eight percent increase in South Carolina egg production with 1,021,000,000 eggs produced. The production of over one billion eggs set a new production record for the state.
Poultry remains a huge portion of South Carolina's agribusiness industry. According to the South Carolina Poultry Association, the poultry industry represents nearly 40% of all agriculture in the state and sales represent $1.5 billion per year. In 2012, broilers, turkeys, and chicken eggs accounted for three out of the top ten commodities in cash receipts.
