Working the fields

During World War II, South Carolina growers continued to set state records in both crop and livestock production. In 1943 alone, records were set in oats, barley, peanuts, soybeans, hay, sweet potatoes, head of cattle, head of milk cows, milk production, head of heifer calves, head of hogs, chickens, eggs, turkeys and Victory gardens. South Carolina was home to 152,760 Victory gardens.
