Barnwell City Fire Department and Barnwell County 4-H offer a 4-H Poster and Essay contest to promote Fire Safety Prevention. Using the National Fire Prevention Theme, the contest is open to students in Barnwell School District #45 grades K5-12. Posters and essays are submitted for judging with the winning entries on display during Fire Safety Fun Day held on the Saturday of National Fire Prevention Week.
National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) selected this theme to encourage greater care when cooking and an awareness of kitchen fire dangers. As cooking is the number one cause of home fires and home fire injuries, NFPA will use the week of October 6-12 to promote safe kitchen habits with stoves, microwaves and other appliances. Remaining attentive while cooking and managing how close children and pets are to anything hot will help keep families safe.
