Carolina Quest is South Carolina's Retained Ownership Program. This is a partnership with Iowa State University's Tri-County Steer Carcass Futurity. Cattle are sent to custom feeders in southwest Iowa and place on feed until they are ready for harvest. This is an excellent opportunity for South Carolina farmers to see how the cattle they raise actually perform in the feedlot.
Calves are sold on carcass characteristics and all animal performance and carcass data is returned to the calf owners. This information can be used to make decisions on genetic selection (bulls and replacement females) at the farm level.
Visit the Tri-County Steer Carcass Futurity Cooperative web site for information about retained ownership.
Health Requirements for Entries (from TCSCF site)
