Lancaster County 4-H Poultry Club
The Lancaster County 4-H Poultry Club is open to youth age 5 to 18 that have an interest in raising chickens for eggs, meat or just as a family pet. The club meets once per month from March to October of each year. Topics include proper nutrition, health, and housing. The Youth also learn how to keep financial records and determine what the cost of eggs should be based upon the amount of inputs purchased. Numerous other topics are also covered. There are several opportunities to show the birds and clinics are held throughout the summer to prepare the youth for the show season. The club does have officers and the youth are in charge of running the meetings.
Members of this club are encouraged to participate in either the Pullet Chain or the Laying Flock Project.
The meetings are typically held at the Lancaster Extension office on the third Tuesday of each month (March through November) from 6:30pm - 7:30pm. On occasion we will meet at a farm.
