Many experts in areas related to nursery runoff agree that there will be an increase in the number of runoff related regulations placed on nurseries in the future.
There has been a recent increase in the enforcement of the EPA's total maximum daily load (TMDL) program which governs nutrient levels in watersheds and bodies of water. Additionally, nearly every state has established TMDLs for nutrients in agricultural runoff.
The most important indicators of the trend, however, are management laws enacted by Maryland, Delaware, and California that control the amount of fertilizer applied to nurseries while monitoring nutrient concentration in nursery runoff.
