The Pennell Center was founded in 2009 by a generous gift from Rick Pennell, president and CEO of Metromont Corp., in honor of his father. The center supports the research, teaching and outreach activities of faculty and students in Clemson’s School of Design and Building.

Explore the Pennell Center:

Clemson’s School of Design and Building is composed of undergraduate and master’s programs in architecture, construction science and management, and landscape architecture, as well as master’s programs in city and regional planning, historic preservation, and real estate development, and a Ph.D. program in planning, development and the built environment.

The Pennell Center brings together students from various disciplines, just as the design and building fields bring together various professions in the working world. The Pennell Center promotes research and scholarship that is useful for practitioners working in the fields influencing the built environment, supports interdisciplinary approaches to understanding and managing the build environment, and provides faculty and students with opportunities to develop important ideas that influence the built environment. In 2014, the Pennell Center awarded $15,000 to faculty in Clemson University’s School of Design and Building to pursue research related to the built environment.
