State 4-H Creative Contests

Creative Contests allow youth to express their love of horses in a variety of creative formats. COntest options may include posters, drawings, painting, photography, crafts, woodworking, sewing, poetry, and essays.

State 4-H Hippology

Hippology is the study of horses. This contest tests the participants knowledge of horses and horse related items from any aspect of the horse industry. Contest elements include a written exam, horse judging, identification of items and/or their uses, and solving a problem and presenting the solution.

State 4-H Horse Bowl

Horse Bowl is a quiz bowl contest where participants are asked questions about horses and horse related topics. Quick thinking is a must as you must activate your electronic buzzer before your opponent in order to answer the question and score points.

State 4-H Horse Judging

Horse judging turns the tables as youth try to match the experts in deciding how a particular group of horse should be ranked if they were competing in a show. Participants place various types of classes (in hand and under saddle) then give an oral presentation explaining how they ranked the class and why.

State 4-H Horse Leader Symposium

The Leader Symposium provides a hands on professional development opportunity for horse program volunteers. Training topics change annually so there is always something new to be learned. Program updates are reviewed and networking opportunities are available.

State 4-H Horsemanship Camp

The purpose of 4-H Horsemanship Camp is to provide youth an opportunity to learn and better techniques of horsemanship while enjoying the fellowship of other 4-H'ers from across the state. The camp is designed to increase horse knowledge and horsemanship skills - from the basics for beginning riders to showing techniques for the advanced rider.

State 4-H Horse Show

4-H riders from across the state put their riding and showmanship skills to the test during this multi-day show. A wide variety of classes and divisions are offered so that riders of all levels and disciplines have the opportuntiy to compete.

Southern Regional 4-H Horse Championships

Highest placing participants at state level horse events may have the opportunity to represent South Carolina at the Regional Championships. Events include riding/showing, horse bowl, hippology, horse judging, and communications.

 

Eastern National 4-H Horse Round-Up

Highest placing senior age participants at state level horse events may have the opportunity to represent South Carolina at the Eastern National Championships. Events include horse bowl, hippology, horse judging, and communications.
