Clemson Extension offered clothing programs to help families use their clothing dollars wisely. Schools and clinics that emphasized sewing skills were offered around the state. Programs covered the proper use and care of sewing machines, patterns, tailoring tips, reconditioning techniques, proper care of fabrics, and budgeting.
Today, many 4-H clubs still learn the sewing basics, making items like tee shirts, scarves, aprons, and hats. For more information about 4-H programming, visit: www.clemson.edu/extension/4h.
