The study-tour of Argentina includes visits to farms and farming companies in Buenos Aires province.

We are going to visit El Tejar Headquarters in center Buenos Aires.
El Tejar is a private company that farms almost two million acres in
Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay and Brazil.
We will also visit El Tejar farms near Saladillo, where they do agriculture and beef cattle grazing. |

El Tejar started as a livestock operation and they do cow-calf production in the Salado region and finishing in the Oeste Arenoso Region. The most common breeds are from the British Isles: Angus, Hereford, and Angus x Hereford. |

We will have the opportunity to discuss soybean management in this region with top agricultural engineers from El Tejar. Argentina experienced a severe drought in 2009. Normal yields in this region are in excess of 60 bu/acre. Yields in 2009 were reduced by more than 70% on this farm. |

We will have the chance to discuss pasture management, cattle breeding and livestock operations in general. This region uses a grass-fed production system and we will have an opportunity to learn more about how to manage this production system. |
