Grain and Grass-Fed Farming Operation

While Argentina is famous for the grass-fed beef production system, we will also visit a couple of feedlots to learn more about this emerging production system.

Steers

We will visit with feedlot managers to learn more about their business.  Most of the animals hosted at the facilities are third-party owned and are charged a fee for yardage, feed and herd health expense.

The most common breeds are Angus and Hereford which will be destined for the export markets in Europe and Asia.

Silage

The feeding rations are set weekly and is composed of soybean meal, hay, corn and nutritional supplements. Producers will have an opportunity to tour the feedlot and learn more about the management and marketing strategies used in Argentina.
