4-H Dairy Heifer Project

Youth ages 9-17 can raise a dairy heifer for 18 months in the 4-H Dairy Heifer Project. Following the Kick-off, youth will learn to feed and care for the animal; keep detailed records of expenses and weight gains; and prepare thecalf for showing at local county shows and the South Carolina State Fair Dairy Show. The heifer will be sold at the Bred Heifer Sale in October at the State Fair.  Participants draw for a calf. Participants are responsible for all feed and veterinarian bills.

  • Guernseys $650
The SC Holstein Association willoffer two interest free loans for 4-H/FFA Members who qualify.
  • First Time Heifer Project participant
  • 50-100 word essay on why they would like a Holstein calf
  • Recommendation from County Agent
