sewing_2010.jpgLearn basic sewing skills, sewing tools and how to follow directions while making an item to wear along with accessories. Participants will learn how to layout and cut a pattern, sewing machine basics and hand sewing techniques during this three day program. A textile field trip will highlight a career in the textile industry, along with educating youth on fabric and design basics. Items can be entered in the SC State Fair and the Orangeburg County Fair. Bring fabric and bag lunch. Registration includes Let’s Sew, a basic sewing manual, pattern, supplies and a 4-H t-shirt. Spaces are limited. Youth ages 9-15. Nine year olds need to have completed fourth grade.

Sewing Fun 2012

  • Make an apron, chef’s hat, table runner and tissue box cover
  • Textile Field trip to Tandy Leather of Columbia to learn about tanning techniques and uses for leather. Lace up a suede item.

 

Since 2000, volunteers, adults and teens have volunteered 624 hours to provide eighteen 4-H Sewing Fun workshops to over 100 youth. Seventy-five youth have repeated sewing camp from year to year. Twenty-seven youth have entered their sewing items in the South Carolina State and the Orangeburg County Fairs.
