They provide expertise in topics including animal agriculture and veterinary science, natural resources and the environment, gardening, leadership and citizenship, personal growth and development, and science, engineering and technology.

Clover STATE 4-H PROJECTS Clover

FACE
The purpose of the 4-H FACE (Food And Cover Establishment) Project is to educate youth in the proper techniques of food plot establishments to benefit small game and other wildlife species. Each youth receives enough seed to create and develop a 1/8 to 1/4 acre wildlife plot for which they must maintain and document observations.
April Registration - Fee Applies - Ages 5-19

Meat Goat Project
This market project is one in which youth receive their wether goats through a lottery system consisting of pre-selected grade animals. At the end of the project, these animals are sold as market animals at the final show.
May Registration - Fee Applies - Ages 5-16

Performance Tested Barrow Project
Purchase a barrow for market price weighing in by the first of July.  Raise to show at the Junior Barros Show at the SC State Fair in October.  For rules and regulations, premiums and awards, go to scstatefair.org

4-H Livestock Judging Contest
Judging is making careful analysis of animals of carcasses and measuring them against a standard that is commonly accepted as ideal.  Learn to judge beef cattle, pigs and sheep, then compete at the State Contest at Clemson University.
April - Junior and Senior 4-Hers

4-H Market Steer Project
4-H/FFA Jr. market Steer Show and Sale.  Weigh in is the first week in June and show is at the SC State Fair in October.  All steers are sold and processed after show. 
May Registration - Ages 5-19

SC Beef Ambassador
Present on a topic of beef safety, health, nutrition environment or animal stewardship.  Make a presentation at the Jr. Beef Round-up at Garrison Arena at Clemson.  A trip and scholarship goes to winner. www.sccattle.org 
August - Ages 13-20

Jr. Beef Round-Up
Showmanship Contest, Breed Shows, Scholarship Contests and Jr. Cattlemen’s Contest.  Topics for the Cattlemen’s Contest may include identification of breeds, weeds, feeds and more, and general beef cattle knowledge.  www.clemson.edu/extension/livestock/livestock/beef/junior_beef 
July Registration - Ages 4-21

Dairy Heifer Project
Following the Kick-off in April at Saluda County Fairgrounds, youth will learn to feed and care for the animal; keep detailed records of expenses and weight gains; and prepare the calf for showing at local county shows and the State Dairy Show during the SC State Fair.  The heifer will be sold at the Bred Heifer Sale in October.  Participants draw for Jersey, Guernsey and Holstein at the Kick-off event.

Clover REGIONAL 4-H PROJECTS Clover

Backyard Rabbit Project
The Backyard Rabbit Project allows youth to learn how to care for a rabbit and does not require much space! Youth will also complete a project book and participate in an interview and showmanship class.
Year Round - Fee Applies - Ages 5-19

Pullet Project
Obtain 12 or 25 week old chicks for a deposit.  Raise your birds, participate in shows, keep records, and earn prizes.  Specific guidelines are provided with registration.  Deposit will be refunded if project is completed. 
March Registration - Fee Applies - Ages 5-19 

4-H Laying Project
Must have a flock of laying hens to participate.  Youth will further their knowledge and skills of managing a flock and marketing eggs.  Specific guidelines provided with registration.

Clover CLUBS Clover

Fairfield 4-H Turn and Burn Horse Club
Participate in local and state 4-H horse events.  Do not need to own a horse to join. Ages 5-19.  Under 9 must be accompanied by parent.

4-H Environmental Club
Learn about gardening, conservation, and environmental matters; gain community service hours through activities done in the club to give back to the community. Open to youth ages 12-19.

4-H Livestock Club
Learn about various livestock and obtain opportunities to compete in livestock related contests. Open to youth ages 5-19.

4-H Cooking Club
Learn food safety, food prep and basic cooking skills.  Healthy Lifestyles Competition in October at the SC State Fair. Open to youth ages 8-19.

From the Farm to the Plate
Agriculture provides almost everything we eat, use and wear on a daily basis. Youth will learn more about agriculture, nutrition, gardening and more! June

Kids in the Kitchen
Youth will learn about kitchen basics and safety, importance of hand washing, measuring dry and liquid ingredients, table manners, food pyramid, nutrition/fitness, basic food preparation and food preservation. Lunch is provided.

Camp WILD
Come experience the outdoors with us! Camp in tents, go fishing, build rockets and enjoy many other outdoor activities.

Safety Day
A fun filled day of learning safety!  Enjoy seven different demonstrations and discussion workshops about safety
