Miss Teneka Dixon, a 2007 Camden High School graduate, was one of the Presidential
Tray recipients recently at Clemson University’s State 4-H Congress. She also received a
$1000 college scholarship.
The Clemson University 4-H Presidential Tray awards are designed to recognize the top
4 Senior 4-H members in the state who are National 4-H Congress alumni and have
outstanding accomplishments in 4-H leadership, citizenship, and project work.
Teneka credits 4-H for her public speaking skills, confidence and responsibility. As one
of the oldest members of the West Wateree Ropes and Reins 4-H club, she always felt it
was her duty to mentor the younger members. She says that one of her most meaningful
4-H experiences was to be named 2006 State Horse project winner and to attend
National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, GA.
As a member of the SC High School Rodeo Association, she competes in breakaway
roping and goat tying. She is currently ranked second in the state for both events. She
has served as President of her 4-H club, Vice President of the Camden High student
body, secretary of the Spanish Club and member of the Beta club and other community
service clubs.
Teneka says that 4-H has taught her the importance of community service. She
participated in Special Needs Rodeo every year, collects books for a book drive, and
collects canned goods for families of soldiers that are deployed overseas. She says that
by being involved in her community and helping others makes her a better citizen and
role model for others.
Her 4-H agent, Mrs. Deon Legette says, “She is just delightful to be around, always eager
to learn more. Her personality is very outgoing, and she is just a wonderful young lady”.
Teneka is the daughter of Stacy and Elizabeth Dixon of Camden. She plans to attend
Winthrop University in the fall, majoring in biology. She says that she is glad she found
4-H at age 9., and it molded her into the strong, outspoken and confident young woman
whose blood will always run Green.
