Marion 4-H’ers compete in 4-H Seafood Contest in New Orleans

South Carolina was represented by Marion County 4-H’er at the Southern Regional Seafood Contest on August 8, 2011 in New Orleans. The 4-H’ers qualified for this contest by winning 1st place in the South Carolina 4-H Healthy Lifestyles Challenge held at the 2010 State Fair. Teams were given one hour to prepare a seafood dish, with Marion Team preparing a delicious “Shrimp and Grits” dish. South Carolina placed in the top 5 spot, scoring 99 out of 120 points. 

Team member are: William Blanchett a 9th grader with Connections Academy; Arberya Lewis a 10th grader at Marion High School and Brandon Murrell a 9th grader at Marion High School. The 4-H’ers along with 4-H Agents Sharon Grice of Marion County and Debra Parnell of Florence County spend four days touring all of the major sites in New Orleans.
