Apartment fire

Hetal Kalariya, Masters student in the Schnabel lab in her own words:

"It was Saturday 7:35am in the morning, we were in bed, suddenly someone knocked on our door and screamed "fire fire". When we opened the door people outside were already screaming "fire fire". My husband and I grabbed some important docments (like passport) and laptops and
ran ouside. When we came outside the top floor was already on fire as you can see in this picture. I was so scared because I had never seen a huge fire like that in my life.

Within in 10 minutes all students were outside. One dog did not make it. The fire started on the top and spread quickly, all top 3 apartments burned. The bottom floor damage was due to smoke and water. Within 50 minutes red cross people came to help students evacuated from their apartment in frigid cold. They had provided us 3 days accomodation in the nearby Comfort Inn, and immediate monetary help for food and clothes.

Mandy Hays (Associate Dean for Student Involvement, Clemson University) arrived there to help us. She has been in contact with
each and every student victim."
