Sustainable Nursery Production

In an environment where growing emphasis has been placed on development of sustainability in businesses and communities, the nursery industry has a natural leadership role. Growing sustainably focuses on balancing greater efficiency of resource use with environmental stewardship. By using water and nutrients efficiently and by controlling their movement both onsite and offsite, nurseries can become sustainable operations and be part of a larger movement that stresses the importance of "meeting the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future generations."

Environmental Resource Management Research Group

Researchers from the USDA-ARS Horticultural Research Laboratory, Clemson University, University of Florida/IFAS, North Carolina State University, Colorado State University, and Oregon State University have embarked on a collaborative venture to better understand and publicize the benefits of sustainable nursery production - benefits to the grower, the environment, and the future. This website, kindly hosted by Clemson University, contains summaries of their work in the various areas associated with nursery sustainability.
