Floating treatment wetlands are an alternative treatment option to constructed wetlands.

Floating wetlands can be used by urban and agricultural managers with existing stormwater, irrigation, or retention ponds to cleanse contaminants from water. Once established, floating wetlands provide
nutrient-processing functions similar to natural and constructed wetlands. They have been used in swine-wastewater lagoons, fishery wastewater, and stormwater retention ponds.
These wetlands float on the surface of the ponds placing large root surface areas in
contact with the water column.
