Slime Mold

slime moldThis fungus produces white, gray, or purple patches in the lawn. Although it may look alarming, slime mold poses no harm to the lawn grasses. This fungus feeds mostly on bacteria, fungi, and decayed organic matter. It uses the grass leaves as a launching pad to release spores which are carried by wind and water.

Control: Slime mold is not a disease, so fungicides are not necessary. Mowing, raking, or spraying a strong stream of water will wash it off the grass blades.
