Pine Tip Moth

Pine Tip MothThe larvae of the Nantucket pine tip moth feed on the inner tissues of the shoot tips of pines. Injury symptoms begin as stunted yellow needles, which later turn brown and die. Examine the shoot closely for holes and deposits of pine sap. It should be hollow when broken.

Control: Prune out and destroy infected shoots in early summer. Insecticides are available and should be applied at the right time to achieve the best control.
